Organic farming isn’t just a vague concept for us. We are passionate about the benefits of organic farming both for the good of the land as well as the well-being of our customers. Cal-Organic Farms® surpasses the government standard for organic practices, and we constantly look to advance innovation in the industry.
The USDA logo you see on our purple tags is our promise that our fresh produce is free of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics, preservatives and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). This gives our grocery partners and customers confidence that our fresh, organic produce comes to you as nature intended.
What Constitutes Organic Farming?
Soil Health
We use composted manures and cover crops that enrich the soil naturally. We also adhere to strict crop rotation practices so as not to deplete the soil of key nutrients. In addition, farmland must be free of prohibited substances such as synthetic pesticides for at least three years before we can plant certified organic seeds.
Weeds & Pests
Since we don’t use synthetic pesticides, our alternative is to use natural methods of limiting weeds and pests. These include leveraging the effectiveness of cover crops and populations of beneficial insects to divert the attention of unwanted intruders to our fields.
Post-Harvest
Our organic farming practices don’t end with planting and growing these delicious vegetables. We also take special precautions to make sure we do not contaminate anything we grow by using nitrile gloves and organic-only equipment.
Random Inspection
Random tests by our certifying agency, California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) ensures the integrity of our organic produce. These inspections confirm for you that every aspect of our operations remains up to these strict organic standards.
